Welcome to our projects page. It seems every project we touch has a unique story to tell so we've decided to present a few of those tales here in hopes you will enjoy them as much as we love telling them. Please look around at your leisure and discover how furniture can talk if you listen carefully enough. We invite you to check in from time to time as we update these pages with more interesting and fascinating projects.
What's New is Old Again
Two old chairs are to be completely rebuilt with the goal of making them look even older than they did at the start of this project. What was originally a very apologetic pair are transformed into sparkling jewels.
A Study in Juxtaposition
Nearly everything concerning this project seemed diametrically opposed to the other: black versus brown; positive versus negative space; red versus orange; traditional versus contemporary. The individual elements add up to a stunning whole and the entire project sings with energy and harmony.
From Rags to Riches
From time to time, we all read an inspirational story of how a unique individual pulled him/herself up from out of the gutter and made something of themself - even if against all odds. One day, while driving through town on an appointment, we literally plucked this chair from out of a dumpster having recognized it's potential. After weeks of work we confirmed our original impression that if given some attention and dedication, the true beauty and strength in this piece would be revealed. All we had to do was guide the work - because the potential was staring us smack in our faces.
A Phoenix Rises
Some pieces of furniture are perfect the way they are and only need refreshing and rejuvenation. A much loved chair receives special treatment that enables it to soar in its own splendor and in the pleasure it gives to its owners and surroundings.
The Classics are Back
Sometimes the best thing to do is to start over completely. This is exactly what the owners of a lovely bed and breakfast decided to do when they initiated the migration of their period Victorian furniture to the sensual, sumptuous and sinuous lines of late 1940s classics.
Listening Through Time
On occasion we are introduced to a project that becomes very personal for us. Such was the case when a client asked us to revive a chair she grew up with and inherited from her now deceased father. This chair represented more than just a piece of furniture to our client and consequently more than just a project to us.
Whispers from Morocco
Years after a life-enhancing trip to the north African coast, two clients happened across a pair of chairs that spoke of solid wood craftsmanship and quiet echoes of Moorish architecture. Removing one layer after another revealed two strong chairs with soft tones of a distant culture.
Gathering 'Round
When collaboration speaks we are inextricably drawn to it and listen very carefully. We found ourselves listening to every nuance and subtle meaning throughout the life of this project. We enjoyed a lively interplay between two creative clients, a synergistic relationship with three fabric selections and the quiet yet definite energy generated by twelve dining chairs when the project was brought together.
La Belle du Bal
It has happened to all of us at one time or another. We socialize, fraternize or collaborate with someone who is pleasant, attractive and interestingly unusual. Quite unexpectedly, we run into that person at a gala event. They arrive and are absolutely stunning. They enter the room and the entire space lights up with their radiance. An exceptionally talented designer approached us with an attractive yet tired chair and through her vision unveiled a ravishing beauty that stole our breath away.
Home Again!
When two clients began working with a designer to lift their interiors to a new level, they were torn between the choice of procuring new living room furniture or refurbishing their existing pieces. The husband liked the old lines; the wife desired something newer. Their designer found a perfect balance by selecting a luxuriously lively fabric and a sumptuous trim which embraced the history of the frames while moving them into the present.
From a Twisted Past
Good intentions sometimes get derailed. A chair purchased at a garage sale languished for 25 years in a basement. The owner never got around to refurbishing this striking chair and asked us if we would be interested. Along with the frame, there were many twists and turns in this project but the results are stunning and astonishing. We turned what was once an unstable wreck into a luxurious and comforting resting place for the end of a busy day.
